Civil Supplies Department urges beneficiaries to complete e-KYC immediately; names of those failing to verify by July 31 may be removed from ration cards
Hyderabad, July 20 (PMI): The Telangana Civil Supplies Department has directed all ration card holders in the state to complete the mandatory e-KYC (electronic Know Your Customer) process for their ration cards by July 31. The department has warned that individuals who fail to complete the verification within the stipulated deadline may have their names removed from ration cards, making them ineligible for subsidised food grains and other government welfare schemes linked to the ration card.
According to the department, biometric (fingerprint) or iris authentication is mandatory for every member listed on a ration card. The verification process is completely free of cost, and beneficiaries can complete their e-KYC by visiting their nearest Fair Price Shop (FPS) or MeeSeva Centre with their ration card and Aadhaar cards of all family members.
Officials have also made special arrangements for senior citizens, bedridden individuals, and beneficiaries whose fingerprints cannot be authenticated. Such applicants can complete the process through iris-based authentication, ensuring that no eligible beneficiary is deprived of the service.
The Civil Supplies Department stated that the primary objective of the e-KYC drive is to ensure that subsidised food grains and government welfare benefits reach only genuine and eligible beneficiaries. The exercise will also enhance transparency in the Public Distribution System (PDS) by identifying fake, duplicate, and inactive ration cards, while removing the names of deceased persons and those who have permanently relocated to other areas.
The department has appealed to the public not to wait until the last date and to complete the e-KYC process as early as possible by visiting the nearest ration shop or MeeSeva Centre. Officials have clarified that beneficiaries who fail to complete verification by July 31 may have their names deleted from the ration card, resulting in the loss of subsidised ration and other welfare benefits linked to the card.
