“I Am Alive and Have Voted in 11 Elections. Why Have I Received a Notice?” Asks 85-Year-Old Man

119 residents of Basavataraka Nagar in Film Nagar receive SIR notices; elderly voter expresses concern over possible deletion of his name from electoral rolls

Banjara Hills, October 17 (PMI): The issuance of notices to 119 residents of Basavataraka Nagar, located in the Film Nagar division under the Khairatabad Assembly constituency in Hyderabad, has raised concerns during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Among those who received notices is 85-year-old Amir Ali, who protested against the notice by holding a placard and questioning why it had been issued to him.

Referring to his age and voting record, Amir Ali questioned why he had received a notice despite being alive and having exercised his right to vote in several elections.

He said that he had been living in Basavataraka Nagar for the past 30 years and had voted in 11 elections so far. According to him, his name was also included in the 2002 electoral roll, making the issuance of the notice a matter of concern.

Amir Ali stated that he had been a voter in the Makthal constituency before 1996 and subsequently cast his vote several times in the Khairatabad Assembly constituency. He expressed apprehension that his name might be deleted from the electoral rolls under the SIR process.

During the protest, the elderly man held a placard declaring that he was alive and questioning the need for the notice.

The issuance of notices to 119 residents of Basavataraka Nagar has raised questions about the electoral roll revision process and the difficulties faced by elderly voters.

The reasons for issuing the notices and the response of the concerned election authorities are awaited. (pressmediaofindia.com)
