CJP March in Delhi: Police Lathicharge Protesters After Attempt to Breach Barricades Near Parliament Street

New Delhi, July 20(PMI): Tension gripped the national capital on Monday after police resorted to a lathi charge to disperse thousands of protesters belonging to the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), who allegedly attempted to break through security barricades and march towards Parliament during a protest demonstration.

According to officials, the protest march began peacefully but escalated when a large number of demonstrators reached the Parliament Street area, one of the most heavily secured zones in New Delhi. Security arrangements had been tightened in anticipation of the protest, with multiple layers of barricades and a heavy deployment of Delhi Police and paramilitary personnel positioned around Parliament and nearby government buildings.

At approximately 11:25 a.m., groups of protesters allegedly tried to push past several barricades erected to prevent them from entering the Parliament complex. Police repeatedly appealed to the demonstrators to remain peaceful and not violate security restrictions. However, as some protesters continued attempting to force their way through the barricades, a confrontation broke out between the crowd and security personnel.

The situation quickly turned tense, prompting police to use batons to disperse the protesters and restore order. Witnesses reported scenes of chaos as protesters scattered while police pushed the crowd away from the restricted area.

Officials said a scuffle-like situation developed during the confrontation, resulting in minor injuries to several protesters as well as a few police personnel. The injured received first aid at the spot, and no serious injuries were immediately reported.

Authorities said the security measures were necessary because Parliament Street falls within a high-security zone where public movement is strictly regulated, especially during parliamentary proceedings and major demonstrations.

Additional police and paramilitary forces were deployed in and around the area to prevent any further attempts to breach security. The situation was brought under control after the protesters were dispersed, although police continued to maintain a strong presence throughout the vicinity as a precaution.

There was no immediate official statement from the Cockroach Janta Party regarding the incident or the police action. Authorities are expected to review CCTV footage and other evidence to determine whether any legal action will be taken against those allegedly involved in breaching security barricades.
