Hyderabad (PMI) Police Commissioner V. C. Sajjanar has announced stringent steps to make the city drug-free, combining strict enforcement with rehabilitation efforts.
During a visit to the de-addiction centre at Gandhi Hospital, he interacted with individuals undergoing treatment after testing positive for drug use. He reviewed their health, encouraged recovery, and urged families to provide emotional support.
Out of 239 rowdy-sheeters tested, 188 were found positive. While 35 are currently under treatment at Gandhi Hospital, others are receiving counselling at different centres as part of a 15-day rehabilitation programme.
To tighten enforcement, advanced drug detection kits have been deployed across police stations, with instructions to conduct checks on suspicious individuals, particularly during night hours. The Commissioner also warned of strict action against drug peddlers, including opening history sheets.
He praised the establishment of 35 de-addiction centres across the state and highlighted the strong performance of the Hyderabad Narcotics Enforcement Wing (H-NEW). Citizens and organisations have been urged to support the mission to eliminate drug abuse. (pressmediaofindia.com)
