NEW DELHI, September 2 (Anita-PMI) AIMIM national spokesperson Syed Asim Waqar joined the Congress on Wednesday, September 2, and criticised the Asaduddin Owaisi-led party, alleging that it only claims to oppose the BJP while, on the ground, targeting those seeking to defeat the ruling party.
Waqar joined the Congress at the AICC headquarters at 24 Akbar Road in New Delhi in the presence of AICC Uttar Pradesh in-charge Rajendra Pal Gautam, Uttar Pradesh Congress president Ajay Rai and AICC Minority Department chairman Imran Pratapgarhi.
Addressing a press conference following Waqar’s induction, Gautam said the Congress was leading a nationwide movement under the leadership of Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi on issues concerning education, employment, students, women and marginalised sections.
Waqar’s move to the Congress comes amid reports of differences within the AIMIM and marks a significant political shift for the former national spokesperson of the Hyderabad-based party.
