New Delhi, May 4 (PMI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday, reacting to the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) strong performance in the West Bengal Assembly elections, said that the focus should now be on positive change rather than revenge.
Addressing party workers during victory celebrations at the BJP headquarters, he congratulated them and said the party would continue to work for a better future for Bengal. Referring to the violence witnessed during elections, he appealed to workers of all political parties to put an end to this never-ending cycle of violence.
The Prime Minister said, “Now that the BJP has won, the focus should not be on revenge but on change. We must look toward a brighter future, not fear.” He also emphasized that, for the first time, West Bengal witnessed relatively peaceful polling, and no innocent civilian lost their life, calling it a major victory for democracy.
In his speech, Modi paid tribute to Syama Prasad Mookerjee, the ideologue of the BJP, saying that his soul would be at peace today as the party is set to form a government in Bengal for the first time.
He assured that the new government would prioritize women’s safety, employment for youth, and overall development of the state. He also announced that the Ayushman Bharat Yojana would be approved in the first cabinet meeting, and strict action would be taken against infiltrators.
The Prime Minister further stated, “A new chapter in Bengal’s destiny begins today. The state will now move forward free from fear and filled with confidence in development.”
Praising party workers, he said the elections showcased the organizational strength of the BJP. He also described the party’s performance in the by-elections across various states as encouraging.
It may be noted that vote counting for Assembly elections in Assam, West Bengal, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Puducherry has concluded, with the BJP showing notable improvement in its performance in several states. (pressmediaofindia.com)
