Hyderabad, Sept. 13: A 72-foot-tall eco-friendly idol of Lord Ganesha has been prepared by the Taranga Youth Association in Nagole as part of the Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations.
The association has been continuing the tradition of installing a Ganesha idol for the past 20 years, while it has been focusing on eco-friendly practices for the last decade.
Speaking to ANI, association member Praneeth said the 72-foot idol had been prepared using environmentally friendly materials. He said the size of the idol had been gradually increased every year since the COVID-19 pandemic, while efforts were made to ensure that the idol remained eco-friendly.
The pandal has also been constructed entirely with wood, while organic cloth has been used as binding material. The idol was prepared at the same venue and took nearly three months to complete.
The idol was created under the guidance of main artist K. Nagesh, with the assistance of 21 other artisans. Most of the artisans came from West Bengal, while Nagesh is from Telangana.
According to Praneeth, the idol has been made from clay brought from different parts of West Bengal, reflecting the traditional craftsmanship and cultural cooperation between artisans from Telangana and West Bengal.
The idol will be immersed with the assistance of the Telangana State Fire Services Department. Following the immersion, the materials will be kept at the venue for three days so that members of the local community can reuse them for making tulsi pots and other useful items.
Ganesh Chaturthi is a 10-day Hindu festival celebrated to mark the birth of Lord Ganesha, who is revered as the deity of wisdom, prosperity and new beginnings. Devotees install Ganesha idols at homes and public venues, where prayers and cultural programmes are held. The festival concludes with the immersion of the idols. ـCourtesy ANI
