Hyderabad, September 10 (PMI): Telangana State Waqf Board Chairman Azmatullah Hussaini, in a statement, said that the Waqf Board cannot be held responsible for allegations concerning the alleged destruction or deterioration of Waqf properties. However, following the statement, questions are being raised about accountability for the protection and present status of Waqf properties.
If the Waqf Board is not responsible for the alleged deterioration of these properties, questions arise as to which authority or officials would be accountable for any damage allegedly caused due to negligence or lapses. Questions have also been raised over what measures the Waqf Board has taken so far for the protection and maintenance of Waqf properties, and whether timely action was taken whenever allegations of encroachment or unauthorised construction came to light. Particular questions are also being raised regarding the Waqf property associated with Kohe Imam Zamin.
The Waqf Board Chairman and the Board’s Shia member may clarify the current status of cases pending before the courts concerning the property, as well as the measures taken to protect it. Questions have also been raised regarding alleged construction activity on the Kohe Imam Zamin land, including who initiated the construction, under what authority it is being carried out, and whether the persons concerned possess valid approval or permission from the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC).
It also needs to be clarified whether the Waqf Board or the concerned committee has examined the permissions relating to the construction, government records and documents concerning ownership of the property.
If the construction is found to be unauthorised, questions arise as to what steps have been taken to stop it or to seek action from the competent authorities. Similarly, clarification is being sought from the concerned authorities regarding representations made to the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRA), as well as whether visits by political leaders to the site have resulted in any concrete action.
Videos and photographs circulating in connection with alleged construction activity on land associated with the sacred Kohe Imam Zamin have also generated questions among the public. Some sections have expressed concern over the absence of a clear public position from Waqf Board Chairman Azmatullah Hussaini, Chief Executive Officer Asadullah and the Board’s Shia member on these issues.
However, all claims concerning ownership, possession, pending litigation, and the legal status of the construction can be conclusively established only through official records, reports from the competent departments and due legal proceedings.
