Israeli missiles strike Gaza hospital, patients evacuated

13-04-2025

GAZA STRIP: Two Israeli missiles hit a building inside a main Gaza hospital on Sunday, destroying the emergency and reception department and damaging other structures, medics said.

Health officials at the Al-Ahli Arab Baptist Hospital evacuated the patients from the building after one person said he received a call from someone who identified himself with the Israeli security shortly before the attack took place.

No casualties were reported, according to the civil emergency service.

Israel made no comment on the strike.

Images circulating on social media, which Reuters could not immediately authenticate, showed dozens of displaced families leaving the place. Some of them dragging sick relatives on hospital beds.

In its statement, the Hamas-run government media office condemned the attack as a “heinous and filthy crime,” saying that Israel “deliberately destroyed and rendered out of service 34 hospitals as part of a systematic plan to dismantle what remains of the healthcare sector in the Gaza Strip.”

In October 2023, an attack on the Al-Ahli Arab Baptist Hospital killed hundreds of people. Palestinian officials blamed an Israeli air strike for the blast. Israel said the blast was caused by a failed rocket launch by the Palestinian Islamic Jihad militant group, which denied blame.

The Government Media Office in Gaza has published a list of 35 hospitals including al-Ahli Hospital that Israeli forces have attacked during the ongoing war.

In Gaza City, they are al-Shifa Medical Complex, al-Ahli Hospital, al-Quds Hospital, Al Hayat Specialised Hospital, Al Helou Hospital Hospital, al-Karama Hospital, the Patient’s Friends Hospital, the Public Service Hospital, the International Eye Hospital, St John Eye Hospital, Assahaba Medical Complex, Hamad Hospital, Hayfa Hospital, Al Wafa Hospital, Al Mahdi Maternity Hospital, Emirati Hospital and the Turkish-Palestinian Friendship Hospital.

In north Gaza, they are the Indonesian Hospital, the Kamal Adwan Hospital, the Beit Hanoon Hospital, the al-Awda Hospital, the Psychiatric Hospital, Al Rantisi Hospital, Al Nasr Children’s Hospital, the Muhammad al-Durrah Hospital, the Specialized Eye Hospital, the Happy al-Yemen Hospital, the Muslim Specialist Hospital and the Jordan Field Hospital.

In central Gaza, the Jaffa Hospital was bombed, while in southern Rafah, Mohammed Yousef el-Najar Hospital was also put out of service.

And in southern Khan Younis, the facilities attached are the Nasser Medical Complex, the Algerian Specialized Hospital, Dar Essalam Hospital, and the al-Amal Hospital.

Video of the aftermath of the attack, verified by media shows rescue workers at the site of a bombed building at al-Ahli Hospital, looking through the rubble for survivors.

As we’ve been reporting, al-Ahli is the main partially functioning hospital in northern Gaza. The Israeli attack has now put it out of service.

Israel has repeatedly targeted Gaza’s hospitals with impunity throughout its devastating war.

Nearly 10,000 Palestinians are being held in Israeli prisons, many of them without a formal charge.

Recently, released detainees have given testimony of the torture and abuse they endured.

Three people, including a 12 year old boy with a head injury, have been reported dead following their forced evacuation from the Al Ahli Hospital in Gaza City. (Int’l News Desk)
