Hyderabad, September 22 (Shoukat-PMI) The Telangana Police Department has once again demonstrated its performance at the national level in controlling drugs and narcotics. The coordinated measures, investigations and preventive initiatives undertaken by the Telangana EAGLE Force under the leadership of its Director Sandeep Shandilya have received recognition from the Central Government.
The EAGLE Force Director received a national-level award from Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi on Tuesday.
The recognition was announced during the third National Conference of Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) Heads, being conducted under the aegis of the Narcotics Control Bureau in New Delhi on September 22 and 23. The conference is discussing strategies to curb the illegal trafficking of narcotic drugs across the country, coordination among states, strengthening investigation capabilities, and improving the narcotics control system.
EAGLE Force Excels in Seven Parameters
The performance of the Anti-Narcotics Task Forces of various states was assessed based on seven major parameters prescribed by the Central Government. The Telangana EAGLE Force scored more than 80 per cent across these parameters:
- Intelligence Operations
- Synthetic Drug Control
- Prosecution
- Demand and Harm Reduction
- Coordination and Capacity Building
- Research and Analysis
- Administration and Logistics
Special measures have been taken in Telangana to further strengthen the prosecution process. Dedicated cells have been established for areas including legal search, judicial analysis, witness protection and prosecution support.
DGP Reviews Drug Control Measures Across Districts
DGP C.V. Anand, who has accorded high priority to drug control, has held several review meetings with EAGLE Force officials. During his visits to various districts, he directed Superintendents of Police and unit officers to focus particularly on the trafficking and consumption of narcotic drugs.
As part of these efforts, officials have been working in coordination on ground-level intelligence gathering, investigation of cases, action against accused persons and prosecution.
Protecting Future Generations Is the Goal
DGP C.V. Anand said the Telangana Government’s objective is to protect future generations from falling victim to the drug menace. He warned that narcotic drugs could seriously affect the lives of young people, particularly children, and stressed the need for the police department to adopt a stronger approach towards controlling drugs.
The DGP appreciated the coordinated efforts of the EAGLE Force, district police units and other concerned departments in meeting the standards prescribed by the Central Government.
He congratulated the officers and personnel whose efforts contributed to the Telangana EAGLE Force receiving recognition at the national level.
Telangana Police Focuses on Cybercrime and Drug Control
The Telangana Police Department has stated that it has achieved a leading position nationally in two key areas — cybercrime control and anti-narcotics enforcement — citing its performance in these sectors.
The department is also preparing special action plans to improve its performance in other areas. Particular attention will be given to the implementation of the new national criminal laws, as well as systems such as ICJS (Interoperable Criminal Justice System) and CCTNS (Crime and Criminal Tracking Network & Systems).
The DGP said special drives would be undertaken to address areas where improvement is required, with continuous reviews of performance aimed at strengthening the department’s overall ranking and effectiveness. (pressmediaofindia.com)
