Hyderabad City Police Commissioner Sri V.C. Sajjanar, IPS, directed the police department to make comprehensive security arrangements to ensure that the upcoming Vinayaka Chavithi celebrations and Ganesh idol immersion festivities are conducted peacefully and in a grand manner across the city.
A preparatory meeting on security arrangements for the Ganesh festivities was held on Saturday at the TGICCC Auditorium in Banjara Hills, with SI-level and senior police officers participating.
At the outset, the DCPs of Law and Order and Traffic briefed the Commissioner on the security measures being undertaken in their respective jurisdictions, coordination with other departments and the proposed bandobast plans.
Addressing the meeting, Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar, IPS, called upon the police personnel to ensure that the Ganesh celebrations are conducted peacefully through coordinated efforts, similar to the successful arrangements made during the recently concluded Bonalu festivities.
He said the 11-day Ganesh celebrations should be treated with utmost seriousness and that foolproof security arrangements must be put in place to prevent any untoward incidents.
The Commissioner instructed SHOs at the field level to regularly conduct coordination meetings with peace committees, Ganesh mandap organisers and representatives of various government departments. He stressed that officers must ensure that regular activities and public movement in the city are not disrupted during the festivities.
He directed all personnel to discharge their duties responsibly and work according to a proper plan without giving any scope for negligence.
All Ganesh mandap organisers within the Hyderabad Commissionerate limits were instructed to register through the app developed by Hyderabad City Police and ensure that the required details are geo-tagged through the designated application.
Organisers should also be encouraged to make arrangements such as barricades, queue lines and CCTV cameras at mandaps witnessing heavy crowds. Sector officers were instructed to remain constantly alert to prevent any local issues from arising.
The Commissioner said that, following the inclusion of the Shamshabad and Rajendranagar zones in Hyderabad City Police limits, the Ganesh celebrations from Balapur to Khairatabad now fall under the city police jurisdiction.
He directed officers to pay special attention to routes beginning from Balapur and leading through the major immersion routes to Tank Bund and other water bodies. Advance route clearances should be completed to facilitate the movement of large idols without causing traffic congestion and to prevent tall idols from coming into contact with electrical wires.
He also instructed officers to coordinate with the Cyberabad and Rachakonda Commissionerates regarding the movement of idols arriving from their respective borders. Special traffic management plans should be implemented in high-footfall areas such as Khairatabad Bada Ganesh.
The Commissioner warned that the IT Cell and local police would monitor social media platforms round the clock for posts and rumours that could incite communal hatred or tensions during the festival period.
Strict legal action would be taken against those who engage in activities that disturb law and order or circulate provocative content, he warned.
He said the next month would be particularly crucial and directed officers and personnel to remain continuously accessible to the public at the field level and ensure visible policing.
Police personnel deployed on duty were instructed to interact with members of the public and devotees with patience, restraint and courtesy.
