HYDERABAD ‘Sept 21 (PMI) The Telangana High Court has sentenced former LB Nagar ACP A. Krishnaiah to one month’s simple imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹2,000 for contempt of court after he arrested an accused despite an interim order protecting him from arrest. Justice K. Sujana passed the order on September 18.
The contempt case was filed by Katta Vamsi Krishna, who was facing a dowry-death case registered at Saroornagar Police Station. The High Court had granted him interim protection from arrest on April 21, 2026, and extended the protection on April 23 and April 27.
Despite the protection being in force, Krishna was arrested on April 28 while undergoing treatment at a hospital and was produced before a magistrate for remand. After the High Court orders were brought to the magistrate’s notice, the remand was rejected and Krishna was released.
During the contempt proceedings, Krishnaiah said he was unaware that the protection order had been extended and cited pressure arising from the case. He also tendered an unconditional apology.
The High Court rejected the explanation, observing that once the officer knew about the initial protection order, it was his responsibility to verify whether it had been extended through the High Court website or appropriate legal channels.
The court suspended the sentence until October 19 to allow the officer to file an appeal. Contempt proceedings against SI V. Maraiah were dropped after the court found that he had no role in the arrest.(pressmediaofindia.com)
