Revanth Reddy Drops Konda Surekha from Telangana Cabinet

Hyderabad, Sept 3 (PMI) Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has decided to remove Forest Minister Konda Surekha from the State Cabinet with immediate effect. The decision was taken after the Congress high command approved the recommendation of the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) Disciplinary Committee for stern action.

The decision has been communicated to the office of Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla. Alongside Surekha’s removal, the appointment of State Planning Board Vice Chairman G Chinna Reddy has also been rescinded.

The TPCC Disciplinary Committee had submitted its report to TPCC president Mahesh Kumar Goud on August 20, recommending strict action against both senior leaders for allegedly violating the party’s disciplinary code.

Konda Surekha’s daughter, Konda Sushmitha, had alleged that the Chief Minister offered prime land to a shell company linked to his brother at a throwaway price. G Chinna Reddy, meanwhile, had alleged that Wanaparthy MLA T Megha Reddy was offered a party ticket to contest the Assembly elections after being lured with money.

The allegations triggered criticism from several Congress leaders, who demanded stern action against both leaders. Although Konda Surekha maintained that she could not be held responsible for her daughter’s remarks, some MLAs called for action against her as well.

The Chief Minister, Konda Surekha and other Ministers were subsequently summoned by the Congress high command for discussions. Following a series of meetings, the high command approved Surekha’s removal from the Cabinet.

G Chinna Reddy’s appointment as State Planning Board Vice Chairman was also cancelled. Telangana Women’s Commission Chairperson Gadwal Vijayalakshmi has been appointed as his replacement.

According to the Chief Minister’s Office, Nerella Sharada has been appointed as the new Chairperson of the Telangana Women’s Commission. Former MP G Sudha Rani has also been approved for appointment as Chairperson of the Kakatiya Urban Development Authority.

Konda Surekha is expected to announce her future course of political action shortly. It remains unclear whether she will resign from the Congress as well as from the Assembly. (pressmediaofindia.com)
