Hyderabad, Sept.3 (Shoukat-PMI): Narayanguda Police of Khairatabad Zone on Thursday arrested a laptop theft offender and an alleged receiver and recovered 19 stolen laptops worth around Rs.7.6 lakh, linking them to 16 theft cases reported in Hyderabad, Cyberabad and Malkajgiri Commissionerates.
The arrested persons were identified as Sangishetty Vineeth (29), a resident of New Ashok Nagar, Secunderabad, and Vemunuri Srinivas (29), a computer sales worker and alleged receiver, police said.
According to police, Vineeth targeted unattended laptops at study halls, particularly during lunch and dinner breaks. He allegedly committed thefts near KMIT College and the Telugu Academy area within two days and subsequently sold the stolen laptops to Srinivas. Police recovered seven Dell, six HP, three Lenovo, two Acer and one Asus laptop, with a total estimated value of Rs.7.6 lakh.
Investigation revealed that the accused were allegedly involved in 16 laptop theft cases registered at police stations across Hyderabad City, Malkajgiri and Cyberabad Commissionerates, including Saifabad, Malakpet, Narayanguda, Abids, SR Nagar, Nallakunta, Chaitanyapuri, Kushaiguda, Uppal, LB Nagar, Alwal and Kukatpally.
The arrests followed an investigation into the case at Narayanguda police station, registered on a complaint from a student who reported that his HP laptop went missing from a cabin at Bright Minds Study Hall on August 16.
Police teams examined CCTV footage and used technical evidence to identify and apprehend the accused.
The operation was carried out under the guidance of K Shilpavalli, DCP, Khairatabad zone, and supervision of Narayanguda SHO M Saideshwar, along with police officials and the crime team.
The DCP appreciated the efforts of the police personnel involved in cracking the cases and recovering the stolen property. (pressmediaofindia.com)
