Serving humanity holds exceptional importance in Islamic teachings. The Holy Qur’an speaks of Allah’s love for those who do good, while the Holy Prophet Muhammad ﷺ gave glad tidings that Allah helps the person who fulfills the needs of others. Inspired by this spirit of service, helping deserving individuals and families, particularly by supporting children’s education, can contribute to promoting compassion, selflessness, and a sense of social responsibility in society.

Helping Hands has been working since 2013 in education, skill development, humanitarian aid, and low-cost housing, with its programmes now reaching more than 1,300 students across six states:

About Helping Hands

Helping Hands is a registered trust with an objective to provide a helping hand to the most deserving individuals/families. The main focus is on education – to ensure that no child should stay at home for want of money to go to school, and secondly to provide means to the parents so that, down the line, the head of the family (father or mother) should be able to support their family without any external assistance.

Education:

Helping Hands started its activities in Apr ’13 from Qayam Nagar – a locality of 400 families, but very soon it spread to other parts of the city, and now even outside Hyderabad. In Qayam Nagar, it runs a Sunday School where 80-100 students from Class I to Class VII attend to learn English, Maths and Science, followed by lunch. Once the school gets a summer break, the Sunday School gets converted to Summer School with a longer duration. In addition, Helping Hands also conducts tuition classes for students from high school to engineering graduates, providing suitable placement assistance and coaching for successful graduates. Today, Helping Hands supports students in the States of Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, and Maharashtra, and provides tuition fees, textbooks, and uniforms for 1300+ students and monitors their progress.

Skill Development:

For senior candidates and household ladies who, for various reasons, cannot go to regular school/college, Helping Hands conducts several short-term courses in Tailoring, Beautician, Makeup Artist, Mehendi Designing, Mobile Phone Repair, etc. The trained candidates from these courses mostly work as freelancers.

Humanitarian Aid:

Helping Hands is also a centre for aid, which includes monthly financial assistance, providing groceries to widows and orphans on a monthly basis, undertake medical and health cases too. Under the project “Shelter for Shelterless”, Helping Hands provides low-cost housing to those who own a piece of land but have no means to construct. It has constructed more than 25 houses in Hyderabad, Chittoor, Banganapalli, Kadiri, and a few are in the pipeline in Bijapur. Under Humanitarian Aid, Helping Hands has done a remarkable job during COVID times and during the Hyderabad floods. Helping Hands also works with several like-minded NGOs on various occasions. Helping Hands conducts its Annual Meeting every year in the month of April/May by inviting all its donors and well-wishers to make them aware of its activities and to seek their feedback, and also keeps them updated with quarterly notes to maintain full transparency.
