Ibrahimpatnam police have registered an FIR following a complaint against those circulating a video involving Congress MLA Malreddy Ranga Reddy on social media, while the circumstances surrounding the incident and the allegations remain subject to investigation.
HYDERABAD ‘Oct 08(PMI) Ibrahimpatnam police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against individuals accused of circulating a video on social media showing Congress MLA Malreddy Ranga Reddy allegedly touching a woman during a bus journey. The registration of the case follows a complaint seeking action against those who shared the video.
According to reports, the complaint was lodged on October 7 by V. Sikinder Reddy, president of the Ibrahimpatnam Youth Congress. He alleged that the video was being circulated out of context with the intention of damaging the MLA’s reputation.
Based on the complaint, police registered a case under Section 353(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), relating to statements conducing to public mischief; Section 336(4) of the BNS, concerning forgery intended to harm reputation; and Section 67 of the Information Technology Act. The exact applicability of these provisions will be determined through the legal process.
Sikinder Reddy stated that the MLA had travelled on a bus operating along the Outer Ring Road (ORR) to assess the implementation of the Telangana government’s free bus travel scheme for women under the Mahalakshmi initiative.
He said Ibrahimpatnam has a large student population and that many women and students benefit from the scheme. According to him, the MLA interacted with passengers during the journey and received a warm response from some of them.
The Youth Congress leader claimed that the contact with the woman occurred accidentally when the bus was taking a turn. He alleged that Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) supporters had circulated the footage on social media without the full context, potentially harming the MLA’s reputation.
Background
The controversy arose after a video from a bus journey on October 6 surfaced on social media, showing the 70-year-old MLA interacting with a female college student while reviewing the implementation of the Mahalakshmi scheme.
During the interaction, the student reportedly told the MLA that the scheme had helped her save approximately ₹45,000 annually on commuting expenses.
The circulation of the footage led to controversy over the incident and the circumstances in which it occurred.
The FIR has been registered in connection with the alleged circulation of the video. The allegations concerning the footage and the conduct of those involved remain subject to investigation. No conclusion regarding the alleged incident or the responsibility of any individual should be drawn until the facts are established through the appropriate legal process. (pressmediaofindia.com)
