Congress leaders questioned BRS president K Chandrashekhar Rao’s prolonged absence from the Telangana Assembly, with Minister Mohammed Azharuddin saying that if KCR is unable to attend House proceedings, he should consider resigning as Leader of the Opposition.
Hyderabad, September 6 (Shoukat-PMI): The Telangana Congress on Sunday staged a protest at Dharna Chowk in Hyderabad, questioning Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) president and former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao’s prolonged absence from the Telangana Legislative Assembly.
The protest was held a day before the Assembly session is scheduled to begin on Monday, September 7. Telangana Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar, Minority Welfare Minister Mohammed Azharuddin and IT Minister D Sridhar Babu led the demonstration.
Several Congress workers were seen carrying posters referring to KCR as “Kumbhakarna KCR”, criticising his prolonged absence from the House.
Addressing the protesters, Azharuddin questioned KCR’s continued absence from the Assembly and said elected representatives have a constitutional responsibility to remain accountable to the people.
He said that if KCR is unable to attend Assembly proceedings, he should consider resigning as the Leader of the Opposition (LoP). According to Azharuddin, the LoP has an important role in a parliamentary democracy by questioning the government, participating in debates and raising public concerns.
“KCR’s continued absence from the Assembly raises serious questions about his responsibility towards the people who elected him,” Azharuddin said.
The minister also recalled that KCR regularly attended the Assembly while serving as Chief Minister and argued that the Opposition should remain present in the House when people’s issues need to be raised.
Congress Highlights Government’s Welfare Agenda
Azharuddin said the Congress government, led by Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, was focusing on welfare and development initiatives under its Telangana Rising vision.
He highlighted areas including women’s empowerment, strengthening families, education and the welfare of minorities.
‘Kumbhakarna’ Protest Against KCR
The latest demonstration follows a Congress protest held in Hyderabad on September 4, when party workers used the term “Kumbhakarna” to criticise KCR over his reported prolonged absence from Assembly proceedings. (Pressmediaofindia.com)
