Chandrayangutta Police arrested an autorickshaw driver after a viral video showed him carrying 14 passengers on the Barkas–Sadat Nagar route in violation of traffic safety rules.
Hyderabad, June 5(PMI): The police in Hyderabad have taken action against an autorickshaw driver after a video showing an overloaded vehicle carrying 14 passengers went viral on social media.
According to reports, the incident occurred on the Barkas–Sadat Nagar route in the Chandrayangutta area of the Old City. The viral footage allegedly showed passengers travelling in a highly unsafe manner, with several individuals seated beside the driver while others were crowded into the rear portion of the autorickshaw.
Under traffic regulations, an autorickshaw is generally permitted to carry only four to five passengers in addition to the driver. However, eyewitnesses claimed that the vehicle was carrying nearly 14 to 15 passengers, raising serious concerns about road safety and passenger welfare.
Local residents expressed alarm over the incident, stating that overloading public transport vehicles significantly increases the risk of accidents and endangers the lives of commuters. Many urged authorities to take strict action against traffic violations to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Following the widespread circulation of the video on social media, Chandrayangutta Police identified the driver and arrested him for allegedly violating traffic safety norms by carrying passengers far beyond the permitted limit.
