Hyderabad CP V.C. Sajjanar, IPS, urged citizens, especially youngsters and parents, to avoid midnight birthday celebrations and cake cutting on Tank Bund, roads, lakes and public places, warning that negligence and reckless behaviour can lead to tragic accidents and loss of precious lives.
Hyderabad, Oct 9 (PMI) Hyderabad Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar, IPS, has appealed to city residents, particularly youngsters and parents, not to celebrate birthdays or cut cakes at midnight on Tank Bund, major roads, near lakes, or in parks.
He said that birthday celebrations, which should be occasions of happiness, were sometimes resulting in irreparable losses to families due to momentary excitement and negligence.
The Commissioner recalled a tragic road accident that occurred recently on Tank Bund at around 2 a.m. A family had gathered there to celebrate the sixth birthday of a little girl when a severe road accident claimed the lives of the child and a family member on the very day of her birthday. He said that the police rushed to the spot immediately after receiving information and made every possible effort to shift the injured to a hospital and save their lives, but their efforts proved unsuccessful.
To prevent such tragedies from recurring, Sajjanar said he had inspected the accident site on Tank Bund along with senior police officials to initiate stringent preventive measures. He added that a comprehensive review had been conducted in coordination with various government departments to identify ways to prevent accidents in the area.
The Commissioner stressed that birthdays are private family occasions and should be celebrated at home or at other safe locations. He pointed out that traffic is relatively sparse on roads during the late-night hours, encouraging some motorists to drive at excessive speeds. Taking young children onto busy roads under such circumstances is highly unsafe and unwise, he said.
Sajjanar also reminded the public that organising such celebrations on Tank Bund is strictly prohibited under the applicable rules, and that the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) had already issued clear instructions to this effect. Although police personnel regularly visit the area and ask people to leave, some continue to return at midnight to celebrate birthdays, resulting in tragic incidents, he noted.
Warning people against risking precious lives for momentary happiness, the Commissioner urged everyone to refrain from midnight celebrations on Tank Bund, near lakes and in other public places. He appealed to citizens to cooperate with the city police and prioritise their own safety and that of their families. (pressmediaofindia.com)
