GAZA STRIP/ BEIRUT: At least 55 people have been killed and 192 others injured across Gaza in the past 24 hours, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry.
At least 25 towns and villages in Lebanon’s Bekaa Valley came under heavy Israeli air attacks on Friday, killing dozens of people, according to local authorities.
The third phase of a postponed mass polio vaccination drive is scheduled to restart in Gaza, aid groups say, after the campaign stalled amid Israeli attacks and mass displacement of north Gaza’s population, which has been under military siege for almost one month.
Israel’s genocide in Gaza has killed at least 43,314 Palestinians and wounded 102,019 since October 7, 2023. An estimated 1,139 people were killed in Israel during the Hamas-led attacks that day and more than 200 were taken captive.
In Lebanon, at least 2,897 people have been killed and 13,150 wounded in Israeli attacks since the war on Gaza began, with 30 people killed across the country in the past 24 hours, the Lebanese Health Ministry says.
As Israel’s siege of northern Gaza continues, pregnant women face a dual crisis of health and survival, amidst a crippled healthcare system.
“Since the start of the assault, I’ve experienced constant pain and anxiety, feeling real danger for my life and my baby’s,” Yasmin Al-Masri, a displaced young mother in Beit Lahiya told the Anadolu Agency.
Before the siege of the north began on October 5, Al-Masri had regular check-ups at the al-Awda Hospital in nearby Jabalia and a local health centre. Now, she finds herself without any medical guidance, as the dangers of moving in her area make seeking help nearly impossible.
“Moving in this region is incredibly risky. Israeli drones target anything that moves in the streets,” she said.
Amani Fad’ous, also from Beit Lahiya, echoes Yasmin’s fears.
“My baby is special to us, coming after 10 long years of waiting,” she told the agency.
She worries about her future baby’s health, saying, “I used to eat fresh vegetables, fruits, and proteins, but now I rely on canned goods and legumes, which are far from nutritious.”
According to the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), about 4,000 pregnant women remain trapped in northern Gaza.
The Lebanese armed group has claimed to have attacked Israeli forces with rockets east of the town of Maroun al-Ras in southern Lebanon, in the Malkiya settlement.
Rockets were also launched at Israeli forces north of the occupied Lebanese city of Safed and the Bar Yohai settlement, Hezbollah said.
The group has also claimed to have bombed the city of Safed as well, without mentioning the target.
That’s according to a joint statement by the Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs and the Palestinian Prisoner’s Society cited by the Wafa news agency.
The detentions occurred across various Hebron, Ramallah, Nablus, Qalqilya, Jericho, and Bethlehem governorates.
The total number of Palestinians detained by Israeli troops in the occupied West Bank since October 7 last year has surpassed 11,500, including those from Jerusalem, the statement said.
A security group kidnapped a Lebanese citizen from the Batroun area in the north of the country at dawn yesterday.
A Lebanese security source told AJA that an Israeli commando force, who infiltrated Lebanon by sea, could be behind the kidnapping. (Int’l News Desk)
