IPS Trainee Booked for Alleged Sexual Harassment and Assault of Fellow Officer at Hyderabad Police Academy

Hyderabad, July 19 (PMI): A woman IPS trainee at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy (SVPNPA), Hyderabad, has accused a fellow trainee officer of sexual harassment, physical assault, criminal intimidation and blackmail, prompting the Attapur police to register a criminal case and launch an investigation.

According to the complaint, the accused, identified as Uday Krishna Reddy, allegedly subjected the complainant to continuous harassment from June 23 onwards while both were undergoing training at the academy in Shivarampally.

The woman officer alleged that the accused repeatedly sent her sexually explicit and abusive WhatsApp messages and made offensive and derogatory remarks about her in Telugu in the presence of fellow trainees. She further claimed that he falsely accused her of having a relationship with another trainee officer and persistently pressured her to admit to the allegation.

The complainant also alleged that the accused verbally abused her, intimidated and blackmailed her into revealing private conversations stored on her mobile phone. She stated that around ten days before filing the complaint, he allegedly seized her mobile phone and forced her to disclose its password.

In a more serious allegation, the woman officer stated that on the night of July 9, the accused wrongfully restrained her, forcibly took her to his room, grabbed her by the hair, attempted to strangle her, threatened her with a knife by holding it to her neck and prevented her from leaving.

She further alleged that on July 10, he physically assaulted her, groped her and attempted to touch her private parts without her consent. The complaint also alleges that he secretly recorded a private video of her and later sent it to her husband in an attempt to blackmail and intimidate her. She further accused him of circulating false and defamatory information to damage her reputation.

Based on the complaint, the Attapur police registered a case under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and other applicable laws. The police have begun an investigation into the allegations.

No official statement has been issued by the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy regarding the incident. Police have also not confirmed whether the accused has been taken into custody.
