“I Have Grown Old, I Won’t Contest Next Assembly Elections”: Akbaruddin Owaisi

AIMIM floor leader Akbaruddin Owaisi has indicated that he may not contest the next Assembly elections, saying, “I have grown old. I will not contest,” a remark that has triggered political discussion in Hyderabad’s Old City

HYDERABAD, Oct 4 (PMI) AIMIM Legislative Assembly floor leader Akbaruddin Owaisi has indicated that he may not contest the next Assembly elections, triggering discussions in political circles, particularly in Hyderabad’s Old City.

Speaking at an event at Fatima College in Bandlaguda on Friday night, Owaisi said he was unsure whether he would contest the next elections, adding that he was not even considering contesting.

“I have grown old. I don’t know whether I will contest the next elections. In fact, I am not even thinking about contesting. I will not contest,” he said.

His remarks have attracted attention given his longstanding presence in Old City politics and his prominent position in the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM).

During the interaction, Owaisi also spoke about his educational background and political journey. Referring to his education, he said that although he had studied only up to Class 12, he had reached a stage in public life where even the Chief Minister had to respond to him.

He also used his personal journey to encourage students to develop confidence, determination and perseverance in life.

Owaisi’s remarks have sparked speculation about the political scenario in the Old City ahead of the next Assembly elections. If he ultimately decides not to contest, attention is likely to focus on who the AIMIM may choose to give an opportunity to contest from his constituency. (pressmediaofindia.com)
