Historic Bibi-ka-Alam Procession Concludes Peacefully Amid Tight Security in Hyderabad

Hyderabad:’ June 26 (Najaf Ali Shoukat -PMI) The historic Bibi-ka-Alam procession, one of the most significant Muharram observances in the country, concluded peacefully in Hyderabad on Friday under extensive security arrangements made by the city police and various government departments. Thousands of mourners and devotees participated in the centuries-old procession, which began from the historic Bibi-ka-Alawa Ashurkhana in Dabeerpura, Darulshifa, and proceeded along its traditional route through the old city, passing through Charminar before culminating at Masjid-e-Ilahi near Chaderghat on the banks of the Musi River.
The sacred Alam was carried atop the elephant “Sridevi,” which was specially brought from Karnataka for the annual religious procession. Devotees gathered in large numbers along the route to pay their respects and participate in the mourning rituals associated with Muharram. Hyderabad City Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar, IPS, personally supervised the security and traffic arrangements at Charminar along with senior officers from the Law and Order and Traffic wings.
On behalf of the Hyderabad City Police, the Commissioner offered traditional ‘Datti’ and floral garlands to the sacred Alam as a mark of respect. Throughout the procession, the Commissioner monitored the arrangements and issued necessary instructions to officers deployed along the route to ensure the smooth and uninterrupted movement of the procession. Speaking to the media, Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar stated that more than 2,000 police personnel were deployed to maintain law and order and facilitate the peaceful conduct of the event.
He said that several innovative measures were implemented this year to enhance security and crowd management. A trial walk was conducted in advance for the elephant participating in the procession, which proved effective in ensuring its calm and cooperative behavior during the event. Police also established a multi-layer security system with inner and outer rope-party arrangements to regulate crowds and maintain the safety of devotees.
Drone cameras were deployed for aerial surveillance along the entire route, while mounted police teams assisted in crowd control and security operations.
The Commissioner attributed the successful and peaceful completion of the procession to the coordinated efforts of various departments, including the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board, and the Electricity Department. Expressing gratitude to the Shia community, religious leaders, organizers, and citizens of Hyderabad, the Commissioner thanked them for their cooperation and support in maintaining peace and communal harmony during the observance.
Several dignitaries and senior officials monitored the arrangements, including MLC Mirza Riyaz-ul-Hassan Effendi and senior police officers M. Srinivas, IPS, Additional Commissioner of Police (Crimes & SIT); Tafseer Iqubal, IPS, Additional Commissioner of Police (Law & Order); D.
