Fake Number Plate Racket Busted in Hyderabad; Two Booked

Hyderabad, April 22 ( PMI)) Hyderabad City Traffic Police, acting on credible inputs, uncovered a case involving the use of a fake vehicle registration number plate. The Kachiguda Police registered a criminal case and apprehended two individuals — Shaik Abbu Baba (41), the registered owner of vehicle TS08FB2768, and Shaik Rihaan (19), the user of the vehicle, both residents of Navrang Guda, Ramanthapur.

D. Joel Davis, IPS Jt. Commissioner of Police, (Traffic) Hyderabad City. During inspection, police found that the accused had tampered with the original registration number of a two-wheeler (Hero Glamour: TS08FB2768) and altered it to TS08FE2768, which belongs to a Honda Activa. The alteration was allegedly done to mislead enforcement authorities and evade traffic challans.

Investigations revealed that by using the fake number plate, the accused committed multiple traffic violations. As a result, penalties were wrongly issued against the legitimate owner of the number TS08FE2768, identified as A. Lakshmi from Kukatpally.

A case has been registered under FIR No. 199/2026 at Kachiguda Police Station under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Motor Vehicles Act. Notices have been issued to both accused, and further investigation is underway.

The case was detected through coordinated efforts between Hyderabad Traffic Police and Kachiguda Law & Order Police.

Authorities warned that the use of fake or tampered number plates is a serious, punishable offence. With advanced surveillance systems, including CCTV and Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras, such violations are increasingly being tracked and acted upon.

Citizens are encouraged to report suspicious vehicle registration misuse via the official e-challan portal, email, or WhatsApp helpline provided by Hyderabad Traffic Police. (pressmediaofindia.com)
