Drug Menace Spreads in Hyderabad Old City Despite Telangana’s Crackdown Drive

  • Ganja Sale Continues Unchecked in Hyderabad Old City, Youth Falling Prey to Addiction

Hyderabad, May 25 (PMI) Hyderabad, May 25 (PMI): Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy is taking the issue of making the State drug-free very seriously. The Police Department is also actively working to eradicate the menace of narcotics and has been conducting several awareness programmes across the State.

In Hyderabad city, under the supervision of Police Commissioner V C Sajjanar IPS, large quantities of ganja and other narcotic substances have been seized and several individuals arrested. However, despite these efforts, ganja sales are reportedly continuing unchecked in certain parts of the Old City.

According to local sources, ganja cigarettes are being sold to youth for Rs 100 to Rs 150 each. It is alleged that coordination between consumers and peddlers has allowed both groups to evade police action, leading to a rapid rise in drug addiction among the younger generation. Some youths are reportedly not only consuming narcotics but are also involved in the sale of ganja.

Residents have further alleged that the son of a known rowdy-sheeter is involved in extortion activities, causing fear and concern among locals. People in the affected areas are demanding immediate and strict action against drug peddlers and anti-social elements.

It may be recalled that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy recently stated that strict action against ganja and other narcotics is essential in Telangana. He also warned that even celebrities or prominent personalities found involved in drug-related activities would face stringent legal action. (pressmediaofindia.com)
