Kothagudem, Nov. 2 (Staff Reporter Vijaya Laxmi-PMI): High tension gripped Manugur town on Sunday after a large group of Congress workers attacked the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) office, vandalized property, and set furniture on fire.
According to reports, nearly 1,000 Congress leaders and activists reached the BRS office, assaulted party workers, and damaged office equipment. Two BRS workers reportedly sustained bleeding injuries during the attack.
The mob removed BRS flags, dismantled the flag post, repainted the building walls, and hoisted Congress flags, renaming the office “Indiramma Bhavanam” in place of “Telangana Bhavan.” They threw out plastic chairs, almirahs, and wooden furniture before setting them ablaze. Firefighters rushed to the spot and doused the flames, while police struggled to bring the situation under control.
The dispute over the office building has been simmering for years. Congress leaders from Pinapaka claim that the building was constructed in 2009 by Rega Kantha Rao—now the BRS district president—when he was a Congress MLA. The land for the office had been donated by a local Congress worker. After joining the BRS in 2019, Kantha Rao reportedly converted the premises into the BRS constituency office.
Condemning the incident, Rega Kantha Rao alleged that the attack was instigated by local Congress MLA Payam Venkateswarlu and three ministers from the district. He termed the incident “shameful” and accused Congress leaders of resorting to violence as they could not tolerate the BRS’s fight against the government’s neglect of district development.
Kantha Rao called upon BRS cadres to stage protests across all mandal headquarters, condemning the attack. He is expected to address a press conference later in the evening regarding the incident. ( Press Media of India)
