Hyderabad, April, 26 (PMI): Cyber criminals took online orders saying they would send a load of avocado fruits and finally robbed him of Rs. 2.6 lakhs in the form of repairs, challans and own expenses. The 23-year-old victim from Hyderabad was searching for avocados to buy online through the Just Dial app when a person named Balaji Traders from Vijayawada offered to supply the avocados. Representatives from Balaji Traders contacted the victim.
The scammers asked for fuel costs as part of the delivery of the avocados, and the victim agreed. Later, they asked for some money for vehicle repairs, and then some more money for being stopped by the traffic police, and the victim paid. In this context, the scammer convinced the victim that his son had misused the money he had sent in the past and that he needed some money for personal needs, asking for forgiveness for what had happened.
To gain the victim’s trust, he sent a photo of a check, which he believed and transferred the money again. All this was done by the scammer who not only cheated the victim on the pretext of bringing a load of avocado fruits, but also threatened him to send more money. Fearing what his parents would say if he told this, he sent a total of Rs. 2.60 lakhs. He reported the matter to the cybercrime police and complained.
