Hyderabad, April 26(PMI): Begumpet police have arrested Papani Krantikumar (32), a notorious thief who targets elderly women living alone in their homes and is involved in gold jewellery robbery. 9.8 tola gold jewellery worth Rs. 8 lakhs and a Honda CB Shine motorbike were seized from the accused. North Zone DCP Rashmi Perumal along with ACP Gopalakrishnamurthy, Inspector Prasada Rao and DI Madhu disclosed the details at a press conference organized at Begumpet police station on Friday.
Papani Krantikumar, a native of Mathura Nagar in Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh, used to do small businesses. After that, he got addicted to jalsa and gambling and started committing thefts. He committed thefts in the houses of 14 socialites in Hyderabad and Tirupati areas. After going to jail, he started committing thefts again. The Honda CB Shine motorbikes that he had stolen in the Chilakalguda police station limits used to roam around the areas where there are slums, colonies and apartments, choosing houses where elderly women live alone to rob.
He would break into houses where women were alone with the doors open and break the gold chains around their necks and steal them. He would also steal the jewelry from single women while pretending to be looking for a rented house and escape. On the 17th of this month, he broke into a house on Mayuri Marg under the Begumpet police station limits and broke the gold chain from the neck of a sleeping woman named Kamala and escaped.
