A Palestinian envoy accuses Israel of using humanitarian aid as a “weapon of war” during International Court of Justice (ICJ) hearings as Gaza faces mass starvation due to an Israeli blockade.
The Israeli foreign minister slams the hearings, which focus on Israel’s humanitarian obligations in occupied Palestinian territory.
Houthi-affiliated media say US forces have bombed a detention centre holding African migrants in northern Saada, killing at least 68 and wounding 47.
At least 52,314 Palestinians have been confirmed killed and 117,792 wounded in Israel’s war on Gaza since it began 18 months ago. The Gaza Government Media Office updated the death toll to more than 61,700, saying thousands of people missing under the rubble are presumed dead.
An estimated 1,139 people were killed in Israel during Hamas-led attacks on October 7, 2023, and more than 200 were taken captive.
At least 44 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli attacks since dawn today, including the bombing of a house in southern Khan Younis and a drone attack in Gaza City.

Ardi Imseis, a legal representative for the State of Palestine at the ICJ, explains that Israel is bound by obligations under international humanitarian law and human rights law as an occupying power in the Palestinian territories.
In effect, Israel must operate in “the best interests of the occupied Palestinian population”, he told media from The Hague, where today’s ICJ hearing took place. “That isn’t in fact what’s happening, it’s quite the opposite.”
Imseis noted that Palestinians face forcible transfer, starvation as a weapon of war and indiscriminate bombardment “in ways and means that are really unprecedented in the history of the Palestinian people”.
“The submissions that were made today focused on the (international humanitarian law) obligations”, he said, including the facilitation of “relief schemes for the benefit of the occupied population”.
“This is part of a longer process of holding in this case an illegal occupying power, an aggressive power, to account,” Imseis added.
Israeli forces have killed more than 40 Palestinians across Gaza since dawn on Monday, including in attacks on family residences.
Eight people who were killed in an Israeli attack on the Abu Mahadi family home in Jabalia, in the north of the territory.
“They were sleeping in their homes, feeling safe, when missiles hit … this scene makes the body shiver,” Abdul Majeed Abu Mahadi, 67, told media. He said that his brother was killed in the attack.
“If a person looked at this scene, they would have seen children, women and elderly men cut into pieces, it makes the heart ache, but what can we do?”
Medical sources tell media that Israeli attacks have now killed 44 Palestinians across Gaza since dawn today, most of them in Gaza City and the northern Strip. (Int’l Monitoring Desk)
