HYDRAA demolished 262 illegal buildings in Hyderabad so far

Hyderabad’May 22(PMI) As of September 2024, the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) has demolished 262 illegal structures within the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) limits, reclaiming a total of 111.72 acres of encroached land

HYDRAA’s demolition efforts have targeted unauthorized constructions in Full Tank Level (FTL) and buffer zones of lakes, parks, and stormwater drains. Notable operations include:

  • Ameenpur Lake: 24 encroachments cleared, reclaiming 51.78 acres.

  • Chinthal Cheruvu: 54 asbestos-roofed structures demolished.

  • Gandipet Lake: 40 illegal buildings razed.

  • Bhum-Rukn-ud-Dowla Lake: Demolition of a six-floor building owned by AIMIM legislator Mohmad Mubeen and a three-story building owned by his party leader Mirza Rahmat Beig.

  • Thummidikunta Lake (Madhapur): Demolition of Akkineni Nagarjuna’s N Convention.

HYDRAA has clarified that demolitions are focused on structures built after its formation in July 2024. Buildings constructed before this date with valid permissions are not targeted.

The agency continues to monitor and act against illegal encroachments to protect public spaces and water bodies within the city.
