Owaisi said the “Abdul” of Uttar Pradesh should stop serving others and emerge as a political leader, asserting that he would no longer bow before anyone and would become an MLA.
Hyderabad, Nov 5 (PMI) Referring to Abdul El-Sayed’s victory in the US midterm elections from Michigan, All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) president Asaduddin Owaisi on Wednesday said that the “Abdul” of Uttar Pradesh would no longer bow before anyone but would emerge as a leader.
Addressing public meetings in Uttar Pradesh, where political campaigning has intensified in recent weeks, Owaisi said Muslims should stop limiting themselves to serving others and instead strengthen their own political identity and leadership.
Speaking to reporters, Owaisi said, “Abdul has been elected as a Senator in Michigan. After I spoke about Abdul, did he become a topic of discussion or not? The BJP used to say that Abdul repairs punctures. In a democracy, the same Abdul has now become a Senator. Now, Abdul of Uttar Pradesh will also not bow before anyone; he will become an MLA.”
Owaisi also strongly criticised the Centre’s stand before the Delhi High Court regarding the proposed removal of a century-old mosque located within the Krishi Bhawan premises in the national capital.
The Centre had argued that permanent religious structures could not be permitted within government office premises, as they were contrary to the secular character of public property.
Rejecting this argument, Owaisi said the mosque was constructed before Delhi became the national capital and before Lutyens’ Delhi developed around it. He described the mosque as part of India’s cultural heritage and said it was a registered Waqf property, with the Waqf being its rightful owner.
Targeting the NDA government, Owaisi pointed out that the same government had inaugurated the Central Vista project with a Bhoomi Pujan ceremony.
He questioned the government’s position, saying that religious rituals performed for a public project apparently did not violate secularism, while the government had objections to a mosque that existed at the site even before 1912 and long before Krishi Bhawan was constructed.
