JERUSALEM/ GAZA/ ISLAMABAD: Israeli forces continue to pound Gaza, after killing dozens on Saturday, including a paramedic and at least eight people in a school-turned-shelter in northern Jabalia.
Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is sending senior negotiators, including the heads of Mossad and Shin Bet security agencies, to Qatar for a ceasefire and captive exchange talks.
Israeli forces launched more attacks on southern Lebanon, even as the Lebanese army progressed with its deployment in multiple areas as part of a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hezbollah.
Israel’s genocide in Gaza has killed at least 46,565 Palestinians and wounded 109,660 since October 7, 2023. At least 1,139 people were killed in Israel during the Hamas-led attacks that day and more than 200 were taken captive.
Israeli forces positioned near south Lebanon town
Israeli forces operating with a Merkava tank and two Hummer vehicles have reached the northern outskirts of the town of Maroun al-Ras in southern Lebanon, the Lebanese National News Agency reports. It added that the forces have positioned themselves near a house and an army patrol has moved towards the villages of Wadi Khansa and Rayhana Bari. More details are awaited.
5,000 killed or missing in northern Gaza
The Israeli military’s operation that has been ongoing for 100 days in northern Gaza has resulted in 5,000 Palestinians killed or missing, a medical source has told media.
They added that another 9,500 people were injured in the operation.
Israeli forces launched the operation in the north on October 6, laying a deadly siege on hundreds of thousands of people in the war-ravaged area.
‘Israel has decimated entire education system’ in Gaza: Malala
Nobel laureate Malala Yousafzai says she would continue to call out Israel’s violations of international law and human rights in Gaza.
“In Gaza, Israel has decimated the entire education system,” she told a summit on girls’ education in Muslim nations, hosted by Pakistan and attended by representatives from dozens of countries.
“They have bombed all universities, destroyed more than 90 percent of schools, and indiscriminately attacked civilians sheltering in school buildings.”
Yousafzai was shot in the face by members of a Pakistani armed group when she was a 15-year-old schoolgirl in 2012, amid her campaigning for female education rights. She made a remarkable recovery after being evacuated to the UK and went on to become the youngest-ever Nobel Prize winner at the age of 17.
46,565 Palestinians killed since October 7, 2023
Gaza’s Health Ministry says at least 46,565 Palestinians have been killed and 109,660 injured since Israel’s genocide in the enclave began on October 7, 2023.
In the past 24 hours, at least 28 Palestinians were killed as Israeli raids on schools-turned-shelters continued, the ministry added.
Israel detains 3 teenagers during West Bank raid
Israeli forces have detained three teenagers during an early morning raid in the town of Beit Ummar, north of Hebron, in the occupied West Bank.
Mohammad Awad, a local activist, told Wafa that Israeli soldiers stormed the Safa neighborhood in the town of Beit Ummar, raided several homes and detained three minors. Those detained were identified as Musab Khaled Ekhlail, 15, Hamad Raed Adi, 16, and Qais Mohammad al-Tit, 15.
Israeli forces also closed the entrances to various refugee camps, towns, and the city of Hebron with metal gates. (Int’l News Desk)
