New Delhi , April 25: Members of the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) staged a strong protest in the national capital on Friday in response to the recent terror attack in Pahalgam that left 26 people dead. The demonstrators raised slogans condemning terrorism and demanding strict action against perpetrators and their sponsors.
VHP International President Alok Kumar, addressing the protest, asserted that the attack was not only aimed at innocent tourists but also intended to cripple Kashmir’s tourism and business economy. “The bullets were indeed fired at tourists, but the impact hits the entire tourism and business sector of Kashmir. If tourists stop going, it becomes a question of survival,” he said, alleging Pakistan-sponsored terrorism.
Kumar also made a strong pitch for ending terrorism in the region and “liberating Ghulam Kashmir” from Pakistan’s control. “Now is the time that all terrorism in Pakistan is brought to an end. Secondly, I hope that Ghulam Kashmir is freed from the slavery of Pakistan and is joined back with India,” he stated.
He further criticised Congress leader Robert Vadra’s reported remarks on the incident, accusing the party of siding with Pakistan in times of crisis. “I don’t know why one of Sonia Gandhi’s family members always speaks in favour of Pakistan… This sounds like support for terrorists. The entire Pakistani media is celebrating his statement,” Kumar said, urging the Congress to distance itself from such views.
As part of the tribute, VHP members also performed a havan to honour the victims of the attack.
Meanwhile, the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) called for a “trade bandh” in Delhi, with markets across the capital remaining closed as traders joined in solidarity, condemning the attack and supporting the government’s counter-terrorism stance.
The attack in question, which occurred on April 22 in the Baisaran meadow of Pahalgam, claimed the lives of 25 Indian tourists and one Nepali national. It has been described as one of the most devastating terrorist incidents in Jammu and Kashmir since the 2019 Pulwama attack and the abrogation of Article 370.
