Hyderabad, Oct. 10 (PMI): Discontent is brewing among Muslims in the Jubilee Hills constituency following the Congress party’s recent political moves, which many say have sidelined the community’s interests.
The anger stems from two major issues — the party’s decision to nominate V. Naveen Yadav as its by-election candidate instead of Mohd. Azharuddin, and the long-pending burial ground allocation dispute.
Initially, former Indian cricket captain Mohd. Azharuddin was widely expected to be Congress’s choice for the Jubilee Hills Assembly seat. Confident of his chances, he had already begun reaching out to community leaders and supporters. However, the party’s move to nominate him instead to the Legislative Council (MLC), while giving the by-election ticket to Naveen Yadav, has angered several Muslim leaders and residents.
Adding to their frustration, community members allege that the government has failed to resolve the long-standing issue of providing land for a Muslim graveyard in the area, despite multiple representations.
Local leaders warn that the combination of these two issues may erode Congress’s traditional support among Muslim voters in Jubilee Hills. Political observers also believe the decision could influence voter sentiment in the coming by-election.(pressmediaofindia.com)
