Make waste segregation a daily habit: Governor

Hyderabad: Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan today said the duty of every resident must be to ensure source segregation of waste into dry waste and wet waste.

            Speaking at ‘Community Engagement Program’ for source segregation of waste organized by GHMC at Samriddhi Raj Bhavan Staff Quarters at Khairatabad, the Governor said the staff quarters should become a model for other colonies in source segregation of waste and maintaining cleanliness of colony premises. He said the waste generated in the staff quarters will be utilized for composting at the pits prepared specially for the purpose and the manure will be utilized for the maintenance of lawns and gardens on Raj Bhavan campus. He also said waste when segregated can be beneficial and useful and on the contrary unsegregated waste will be of no use and will lead to environmental disaster.

            On the occasion, GHMC officials explained to the residents of Raj Bhavan staff quarters about the benefits of source segregation of waste and organized awareness program on how to segregate dry waste, wet waste and hazardous waste. They also distributed bins and bags to the residents of Raj Bhavan staff quarters.

            Khairatabad MLA Chintala Ramachandra Reddy, Corporator P. Vijaya Reddy, Principal Secretary to Governor Harpreet Singh, GHMC Commissioner B. Janardhan Reddy also participated in the program.
