Hyderabad, October 5, 2025(PMI) In a concerted effort to enhance road safety and curb the increasing menace of drunk driving, the Hyderabad Traffic Police conducted surprise checks across 23 key locations in the city on the night of October 4, 2025.
The special enforcement drive was aimed at tackling the rising trend of daytime alcohol consumption among vehicle drivers, a growing concern substantiated by recent data showing an uptick in road accidents linked to intoxicated driving during daylight hours.
Contrary to the common perception that drunk driving is primarily a nighttime issue, officials noted a significant increase in offences committed during the day, involving drivers of two-wheelers, four-wheelers, and transport vehicles alike.
During the latest drive, 312 motorists were caught driving under the influence of alcohol. The category-wise breakup is as follows:
-
Two-Wheelers: 259
-
Three-Wheelers: 17
-
Four-Wheelers: 36
All offenders were booked under relevant provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act and will be produced before the Hon’ble Courts. They face penalties including hefty fines, imprisonment, and suspension of driving licences — either temporary or permanent — depending on the severity of the offence.
The Hyderabad Traffic Police reiterated that drunk driving is a grave and punishable offence, endangering not only the driver but also innocent road users. Officials emphasized their commitment to conducting regular enforcement checks, both during the day and night, to safeguard the city’s commuters.
The department has urged the public to refrain from driving under the influence of alcohol and to cooperate fully with the police during such operations to help ensure safer roads for everyone.(pressmediaofindia.com)
