Polling for 70-member Delhi Assembly will be held on 8th of February and counting will be undertaken on 11th of next month. The notification will be issued on 14th of January and the last date of nomination will be 21st of this month.
The Election Commissionannounced the schedule for the Assembly elections in the city this evening.
Addressing a press conference in New Delhi, Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora said that the Model Code of Conduct has come into force with the deceleration of elections.
He said, the poll panel is committed to conducting free and fair polls and 90 thousand policemen will be deployed for polling process. Mr. Arora said, over 13 thousand Polling Stations will be set up for more than 1.46 crore voters in the national capital.
The term of the current Assembly will expire on the 22nd of February. In the 2015 Assembly elections, AAP had won 67 seats with 54.34 per cent vote share, while BJP grabbed 3 seats with 32.19 per cent vote share. Congress had failed to win a single seat with just 9.65 per cent of votes in its favour.
