Hyderabad-Dec 21 (PMI) –Ahead of the Christmas, New Year, and Sankranthi holidays, the Central Zone Police, Hyderabad City, have issued a public advisory urging citizens to take preventive measures to protect their homes while travelling out of the city.
Deputy Commissioner of Police, Central Zone, K. Shilpavalli, IPS, said that with many residents expected to visit their hometowns or holiday destinations, houses left locked and unattended become vulnerable to theft and other property-related crimes.
The police advised residents to inform their nearest police station about their travel plans and expected return dates so that patrol teams can keep a watch on locked houses. Citizens have also been asked to request neighbours, relatives or friends to periodically check their homes and report any suspicious activity. Apartment residents were advised to inform their associations and security staff about their absence.
As part of preventive steps, the advisory recommended restricting access of domestic helpers and service personnel during the period of absence and avoiding leaving keys, access codes or sensitive information with them. Citizens were also advised to change locks or access codes as a precaution if such details are already known.
Residents have been urged to ensure all doors, windows, grills, and balconies are properly secured before leaving. Installation or activation of CCTV cameras, alarm systems, motion-sensor lights and adequate external lighting was suggested to deter unauthorised entry. Parking vehicles inside the premises and using anti-theft devices was also advised.
The police cautioned against leaving signs that indicate vacancy, such as accumulated newspapers, milk packets or garbage, and suggested using timers for lights to give the appearance of occupancy. Citizens were also advised not to leave large amounts of cash, jewellery, or important documents at home and to avoid sharing travel plans or real-time location updates on social media.
The Central Zone Police said patrolling will be intensified in residential areas during the festive season and appealed to the public to report any suspicious persons or activities by dialling 100 or contacting the nearest police station.
Extending festive greetings, the police wished citizens a safe and peaceful Christmas, New Year, and Sankranthi, and sought public cooperation to prevent property-related offences. (pressmediaofindia.com)
