Bihar Elections: Asaduddin Owaisi’s Rising Popularity Causes Concern Among Rival Parties

In the 2020 Bihar Assembly elections, the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) created a political sensation by winning five seats in the Seemanchal region, a development that dealt a major blow to the Grand Alliance (Mahagathbandhan).
AIMIM had secured victories in Amour, Bahadurganj, Baisi, Jokihat, and Kochadhaman constituencies. In Amour, Bahadurganj, and Baisi, the Mahagathbandhan candidates — who were sitting MLAs at the time — were pushed to third place, while NDA candidates stood second.
The results highlighted a clear division of Muslim votes in the Muslim-dominated Seemanchal region. However, political analysts argue that the anti-incumbency sentiment against the ruling government also contributed to the Grand Alliance’s poor performance in those constituencies.
As the new elections approach, the key question remains: Can AIMIM replicate its 2020 success in Seemanchal once again?
