Kukatpally, November 15(Shoukat-PMI): A shocking crime has come to light in the Balnagar zone, where a youth addicted to alcohol and online betting allegedly murdered his female relative to steal her gold ornaments and cash. Balnagar DCP K. Suresh Kumar revealed the details of the case during a press conference on Friday.
According to police, Yeramala Devender Reddy from Khammam has been living with his wife Niharika (21) in Venkateswara Nagar, Jagadgirigutta for the past year and a half. The accused, Boggula Shivamadhava Reddy (21), also a native of Khammam, had been residing in SR Nagar. Over the past few years, he had lost significant amounts of money in online betting and had become addicted to alcohol. Burdened by debts, he allegedly planned to steal gold ornaments and cash from his close relative, Niharika, taking advantage of the fact that her husband would be away for work throughout the day.
On November 12, when Niharika was alone at home, Shivamadhava Reddy reportedly visited her house, engaged her in conversation, and then murdered her with a knife. He then stole gold earrings, a mangalsutra, a chain, another pair of earrings, three rings, and ₹2,500 in cash from the house.
To mislead investigators, the accused tried to stage the scene as if Niharika had accidentally slipped in the bathroom. He dragged the body from the bedroom to the bathroom entrance before fleeing the scene. Police later found that the stolen gold was pledged at Manappuram Finance with the help of a friend, from which the accused obtained ₹3.06 lakh.
