LONDON: A British woman, Kelly Healey, 33, became England’s youngest grandmother at the age of 30, when her 14-year-old daughter gave birth to a baby boy, Daily Mail reported.
As per the publication, Healey’s daughter, Skye Salter became a mother in 2018. However, the matter came to light just recently after which, Healey, who is the mother of five children was given the title of youngest grandmother in Britain.
Sky was reportedly living with her father and stepmother in London when she discovered that she was expecting.
The news was shocking but Skye’s doctor told her that abortion was not an option as she found out about the pregnancy so late.
While Healey, instead of “yelling” at her daughter, decided to love and support her.
“I never thought that I would become a grandma at such a young age,” Healey said, adding that she doesn’t know if her mother was ready to become the great grandmother at the age of 48.
Healey’s daughter Skye is now 17, and her son is three years old.
Before Healy, the title of Britain’s youngest granny was believed to be held by Gemma Skinner, whose 17-year-old daughter gave birth last October, making her a grandma at the age of 33.
Meanwhile, a man of Tunisian origin was arrested in London on the suspicion of murdering and assaulting a 19-year-old student in the British capital, The National reported Monday.
The 22-year-old Maher Maaroufe was detained Sunday after the student, Sabita Thanwani, died at student accommodation in London’s Clerkenwell district.
“I would like to thank everyone for publicizing and sharing our appeal to trace Maaroufe,” Detective Chief Inspector (DCI) Linda Bradley, who is leading the investigation, said according to the publication.
“Sabita’s family have been updated with this development and continue to be supported by specially trained officers. Our deepest condolences are with them,” Bradley said.
“I would ask everyone to respect their privacy at this indescribably devastating time for them as they come to terms with Sabita’s murder.”
The incident
Police were called at a student accommodation building called Arbour House Sunday morning after it emerged that Thanwani, a British national, was injured.
The 22-year-old, who was a psychology student at City, University of London, suffered serious neck injuries, according to the publication. The medics arrived and tried to save her, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Later, London police identified Maaroufe as a suspect and also released images in their bid to hunt him. (Daily Mail)
