Hyderabad, Sept.16 (PMI): EThames Business School, under the leadership of EY veteran Kali Prasad Gadiraju, has released a white paper on ‘Women’s Safety in Hyderabad Metro Transit’.
Authored by students Amena Begum, Khatija Tul Kubra, Taruni Reddy Gaddamedi and Sukhjoth Singh Chawala with mentor Dr. Sahera Fatima, the study drew on 410 survey responses, commuter interviews, and experts inputs from Hyderabad Metro Rail Ltd. and Telangana Police.
The key findings are: Women feel safe in the day, but safety perceptions drop at night. 11% reported harassment, most cases unreported. c) less than half knew of the T-SAFE app / helplines; only 12% used them. Concerns: poor lighting, weak monitoring, limited staff. Commuters suggested more ‘platform seating’ for elderly, pregnant and disabled passengers.
Recommendations include: Infrastructure upgrades – better lighting, CCTV cameras at street level, panic buttons, anonymous reporting., Staff reforms – more women personnel, safety training, clear protocols., Community engagement – safety audits, NGO tie-ups, awareness drives.
