New Delhi, Sept 8 (PMI)– Voting for the post of Vice President of India will take place today (Tuesday), with members of both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha participating. A total of 542 current members of the Lok Sabha and 239 members of the Rajya Sabha are eligible to vote, making the electoral college strength 781. To secure victory, a candidate needs at least 391 votes.
Polling will be held at the new Parliament House from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., followed by the counting of votes from 6 p.m. onwards. The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has fielded Maharashtra Governor C.P. Radhakrishnan as its candidate, while the INDIA alliance has nominated former Supreme Court judge B. Sudarshan Reddy.
Based on the strength in both Houses, the NDA holds a clear advantage. In the Lok Sabha, the NDA commands 293 members, while in the Rajya Sabha it has at least 134, giving it a combined tally of 427 votes—well above the required majority of 391. This makes the victory of NDA candidate C.P. Radhakrishnan highly likely.(pressmediaofindia.com)
