17-03-2025

SANA’A/ DAMASCUS: The US launches air attacks on Yemen, killing at least 31 people, with President Donald Trump warning that “hell will rain down” on the Houthis.

The attacks come after the Yemeni rebel group threatened to resume attacks on Israel-linked ships in the Red Sea over the total blockade of the Gaza Strip, which is now in its third week.

Israeli forces continue attacks on Gaza despite the ceasefire, killing at least nine people including relief workers and journalists, in a drone strike on Beit Lahiya.

Gaza’s Health Ministry says at least 48,543 Palestinians have been confirmed killed and 111,981 wounded in Israel’s war on Gaza. Gaza’s Government Media Office has updated its death toll to more than 61,700, saying thousands of Palestinians missing under the rubble are presumed dead. At least 1,139 people were killed in Israel during the Hamas-led October 7, 2023, attacks, and more than 200 were taken captive.

Meanwhile, at the end of the meeting, with ministers and security officials present, Netanyahu ordered preparations for negotiations under a proposal by Trump’s Middle East envoy, Steve Witkoff, including the immediate release of 11 Israeli captives and the remains of half of the deceased captives.

Israeli state broadcaster KAN reported that Witkoff suggested extending the ceasefire for 60 days in exchange for the release of 10 captives.

The Health Ministry says one person has been killed and another wounded in an Israeli air attack on the town of Yater in the south of Lebanon.

Israel’s Channel 12 reported that the army claimed to have killed a Hezbollah member in the attack.

The US air attacks began in the early evening on Saturday and continued into this morning. We are talking about nearly 40 air raids, with most of them in the province of Saada, to the north of Sanaa. Some 12 raids were reported in Saada.

The deadliest was in the district of Kahza, when US warplanes targeted two residential buildings, killing at least 15 people, according to the Houthi media outlets.

There were raids in Sanaa and Bayda as well. In Sanaa, a residential area was targeted, killing at least 15 people and wounding nine others. There were at least eight raids on Sanaa and in Bayda, there were eight more raids, and we do not yet know what was targeted. Al-Majzah in Marib was also hit, as well as Ans in Dhamar in the south of Yemen. The province of Hajjah was also targeted, where the district of Main was hit.

The political bureau of the Houthis is denouncing these attacks as crimes against civilians and says they will retaliate against them and will continue to stand with the people of Palestine.

According to Yemeni media, US forces launched air attacks on;

Yemen’s capital, Sanaa, and surrounding areas;

The northern provinces of Saada and Hajjah; the central provinces of Bayda, Marib and Dhamar; and the southwestern province of Taiz.

Israeli tanks have opened fire towards the eastern areas of Abasan al-Kabira and al-Jadidah, east of Khan Younis.

Tanks also fired along the Salah al-Din Street, Palestinian media reported.

Yesterday, Israeli attacks across Gaza killed at least 12 Palestinians, most of them in a drone attack on Beit Lahiya.

Anees al-Asbahi, spokesperson for the Houthi-run Health Ministry, says at least 31 people have been killed and 101 others wounded in the US attacks on Yemen. (Int’l Monitoring Desk)
