Hyderabad, Jan.20 (PIB Hyderabad): Union Minister for Culture, Tourism and DoNER, G. Kishan Reddy will be inaugurating five new galleries at Salar Jung Museum, on Sunday in presence of Dr. A Yadagiri Rao, renowned sculptor and Padma awardee, Prof Y. Sudershan Rao, Former Chairman, Indian Council of Historical Research and Hon’ble Board members of Salar Jung Museum.
The five new galleries including the reorganised ones include – THE INDIAN SCULPTURE GALLERY with close to 40 objects some dating back to 2nd century B.C such as the fragment from Bharhut with a lotus medallion and ‘Anantsayana Vishnu’ from the Kakatiya period among many other notable sculptural treasures. The BIDRIWARE GALLERY containing about 300 unique objects which include exquisite ‘huqqa’ bases and ewers. The LAMP and CHANDELIER GALLERY exhibits 180 antique objects from across the world in different media. The EUROPEAN BRONZE GALLERY has over 100 bronze statues and THE EUROPEAN MARBLE GALLERY with 50 excellent marble sculptures. The subjects in the sculpture galleries range from Daily life, History and Mythology.
The Salarjung Museum in Hyderabad is one of India’s most prestigious museums. In keeping with new technologies and display techniques in the field of Museology, there is an effort to continuously innovate and upgrade by reorganising old galleries and adding new ones from collections with interesting potential to appeal to the public.
