Two Hyderabad residents duped of ₹6 lakh through fake challan apps

Hyderabad, Sept. 2(Shoukat-PMI) Cybercriminals conned two Hyderabad residents of nearly ₹6 lakh by circulating fake RTO challan applications through WhatsApp.

In one case, the victim downloaded an APK file titled RTO Challan, following which ₹1.01 lakh was fraudulently withdrawn from his two bank accounts. In another incident, a malicious file named RTA Challan 140.apk led to a loss of ₹5 lakh for the victim.

Police said the fraudulent apps secretly gain control of mobile phones, access banking details, and enable unauthorised transactions. Citizens have been urged not to click on suspicious links or download APK files from unknown sources.

“Such files are designed to steal sensitive information and cause heavy financial losses,” cybercrime officials warned.(pressmediaofindia.com)
