Trump will end war soon despite threats from both sides

13-03-2026

WASHINGTON/ TEHRAN: ‘It was like hell’

Tehran residents reached by Reuters on Tuesday described the US-Israeli bombardment overnight as the fiercest of the war so far.

“It was like hell. They were bombing everywhere, every part of Tehran,” a resident said by phone, speaking on condition of anonymity for security reasons.

“My children are afraid to sleep now. We have nowhere to go.”

A source familiar with Israel’s war plans told media the Israeli military was operating under the assumption that Trump could order an end to the war at any time, and was taking advantage of the opportunity to inflict as much damage as possible before the window for further strikes closes.

Developments in this war are fast moving but we can bring you the reported death tolls as of March 9.

IRAN: At least 1,230 people have been killed, according to the Iranian Red Crescent Society.

That includes 175 schoolgirls and staff killed in a missile strike on a primary school in Minab on the first day of the war.

It is unclear if the figure includes Revolutionary Guard casualties.

The army said 104 people were killed when a US submarine sank an Iranian warship off Sri Lanka. Those deaths were not in the Red Crescent number.

LEBANON: At least 486 killed in Israeli strikes, according to the health ministry.

IRAQ: At least 15 killed, police and health officials said. One commander from Islamic Resistance in Iraq was killed in a March 5 airstrike, police sources said.

ISRAEL: Eleven civilians have been killed, including nine in an Iranian missile strike on Beit Shemesh on March 1, according to the ambulance service.

The military said two soldiers were killed in southern Lebanon, the first troop fatalities since hostilities with Hezbollah resumed.

UNITED STATES: Seven service members have been killed in action during operations against Iran, the US military said.

SYRIA: Four people killed when an Iranian missile struck a building in Sweida on February 28, the state news agency said.

GULF NATIONS: Kuwait has reported six deaths from Iranian attacks, while the United Arab Emirates has reported four and Saudi Arabia and Bahrain each reported two. Oman reported one death from a strike on a tanker.

Media has not independently verified the numbers.

EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said soaring energy prices driven by the war in the Middle East were a “stark reminder” of Europe’s vulnerability as a fossil fuel importer, underscoring the need to boost renewable and nuclear power.

Speaking in Paris on Tuesday, she said the EU’s decision to scale back nuclear power was a strategic error.

Nuclear accounted for one-third of EU electricity generation in 1990 but its share has fallen to about 15% today, she said.

Trump told Fox News that it’s possible he would be willing to talk with Iran but that it depends on the terms, the cable news network said on Tuesday.

Asked in an interview on Monday evening about the possibility of negotiations with Tehran, Trump told Fox he heard Tehran wanted to talk badly, according to the news network.

He also reiterated his unhappiness with Iran’s new Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei, telling Fox: “I don’t believe he can live in peace.”

Trump also echoed his comments at a press conference earlier on Monday, telling Fox the results of the US military operation in Iran were “way beyond expectation.” (Int’l Monitoring Desk)
