TRS bags 735, Congress 142 gram panchayats in third phase

Hyderabad, Jan. 30 (PMI): The ruling TRS party has won 735 seats in third phase of gram panchayat polls totaling to 5,974 so far, while the main Opposition Congress party managed to get 142 seats and a total of 1,897.

Similarly, the TDP got three seats (total 73), BJP four (total 108), CPI three (34) and CPM nil (total 56) and others got 122 (totaling 1,441). With this, the TRS has won 6,252 seats out of 1,491 while the Congress got 2,004, TDP 75, BJP 116, CPI 37 and CPM 58 and others 1,491. The elections for village panchayats were completed with the third round of polls held peacefully which saw about 85 per cent of voter turn-out.

            Third phase of Panchayat Polls in 3,529 villages (4082 with unanimous panchayats) was conducted successfully in Telangana on January 30. As many as 32,055 polling stations were used for 11,667 Sarpanch posts and 67,316 ward members. The polling started at 7 am and completed by 1 pm and counting was taken up from 2 pm. Upa-sarpanches will be elected after counting of the votes polled.

            The total seats won in gram panchayats in three phases party wise in all districts include the TRS got a total of 6,252 (first phase 2,629, second phase 2,610, third phase 1,013), the Congress got 2,004 (920, 835, 249), TD 75 (31, 39, 5) BJP 116 (67, 37, 12), CPI 37 (19, 12, 6), CPM 58 (32, 24, 2) and others 1491 (758, 561 and 172).
