The victim’s parents, migrant workers from Chhattisgarh employed at a local timber depot, reported their son missing after he vanished while playing. This prompted an immediate police complaint.
Uppal police launched an investigation and reviewed CCTV footage, which revealed suspicious behavior by a fellow timber depot worker, a migrant from Bihar named Kumar (also referred to as Kamar or Qamar in some reports). Upon interrogation, Kumar allegedly confessed to luring the boy, sexually assaulting him, and strangling him to death. Some reports suggest the boy, identified in one account as Manoj Pandey, was enticed with biscuits before the assault.
