Hyderabad, Nov.29 (PMI): Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president and MLC Mahesh Kumar Goud has upon the party activists to work together in the upcoming local body elections.
Addressing the Panchayati Raj Sanghatan meeting at Indira Bhavan here on Friday, the TPCC president credited the village-level leaders for the party’s success, asserting that the formation of a Congress government in Telangana would not have been possible without their tireless efforts.
The TPCC president has asked the party workers to focus on upcoming local body elections and urged them to strengthen the organisation by showcasing Congress’ achievements, such as farmer loan waivers, free electricity up to 200 units, Rs.500 cooking gas cylinders and schemes like Aarogyasri.
Highlighting the Congress’ commitment to empowering villages, Mahesh Kumar Goud praised the contributions of former Prime Ministers like Rajiv Gandhi and PV Narasimha Rao.
“The 73rd and 74th Constitutional Amendments, championed by Rajiv Gandhi and implemented by PV Narasimha Rao, brought rights and recognition to villages. This was a monumental step in strengthening grassroots governance,” he said.
Mahesh Kumar Goud criticised the previous BRS government for neglecting panchayats, alleging that the denial of funds pushed many sarpanches into despair, with some even resorting to extreme measures like suicide.
In contrast, the TPCC president lauded the Telangana Congress for its inclusive approach, mentioning the significant support extended to Seva Dal and other grassroots organisations.
The TPCC leader underlined the importance of caste census, calling it Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s visionary idea for ensuring justice to marginalised communities.
“A caste census ensures that the benefits of governance reach the underprivileged. In Telangana, it is commendable that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has initiated this process,” he remarked.
Criticising the Union government, Mahesh Kumar Goud accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of prioritising the interests of corporate giants like Adani and Ambani while neglecting the promises made to the people.
He alleged that BJP’s policies are designed to privatise the nation and undermine public welfare. “While Congress strives to save the country, the BJP is selling it,” he added.
The TPCC president also criticised former chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao for turning “Bangaru Telangana” into a family-centric regime. “KCR’s family has become wealthy while the State struggles under Rs.8 lakh crore debt,” he alleged.(PMI)
